Panayote Vilandos
Panayote “Pete” Vilandos has triumphed over a monstrous field of 2,506 players in Event #24 to take home a whopping $607,276 first-place prize. The 69-year-old joined Doyle Brunson in proving that you don’t have to be young to play poker. “The Internet players – they are very good players. But we are the old fellows and we have a gut feeling that we go with,” he said after his huge win. He defeated Andy Seth heads-up after getting it in with A5o against Seth’s AJ. The board ran out T432K to make Vilandos the unlikely wheel. As an aside, ex-Eastenders star and British celebrity-turned-poker player Michael Greco put in a solid performance in this event to finish in 3rd place for $248k. He lost a coinflip with AT vs Seth’s 77 to hit the rail. Monday, 15 June 2009 Written for Bluff Europe www.bluffeurope.com/poker-news |
