Kevin Parkes wins GUKPT
The first leg of the GUKPT Summer Festival took place over the weekend at Bolton’s G Casino. The £500 buy-in Main Event attracted a field of 75+ runners and was eventually won by Walsall’s Kevin Parkes who picked up a top prize of £12,700. The van salesman beat a final table which included Andy Bradshaw, Greg Hunt and Lee Atherton before seeing off Allan McLean heads up. The key heads up hand came with Parkes holding AK to McLean’s A2 on an A-8-10 flop. All the chips went in, the turn brought a 6 and the river a King to leave McLean crippled. It was all over on the next hand with Parkes’ AT holding up against McLean’s J6. The win was the midlander’s second GUKPT success. He picked a side event at the same venue in last year’s tour. In addition to the first prize cheque and trophy, Parkes won a seat in the Champion of Champions event later this year. The final table positions and payouts were as follows: 1st Kevin Parkes £12,700 2nd Allan McLean £8,470 3rd Lee Atheron £5,780 4th Greg Hunt £3,460 5th Andy Bradshaw £2,600 6th Tony Mace £2,020 7th Najam Qureshi £1,540 8th Ghalib Hussain £1,160 9th Pippa Flanders £770 The £200 side event attracted 121-runners and was won by Dhanesh Patel with Alli Mallu outlasting 64 players to take the £300 event. The Summer Series now heads to Aberdeen from 18th to 21st June and Walsall from 25th to 28th June. The Tour proper resumes in Luton on 1st August.
